How to secure the sending of sensitive information with 1ty.me
Who hasn't had to send a password or confidential information by email or text message? Even when it's unavoidable, it's something you tend to think twice about. Every day we hear about stolen banking details or hacked websites.
Platforms have been emerging on the web over the past few years to put your mind at ease on this front. 1ty.me is one of them.
How can 1ty.me secure my data?
The site, like several similar services, allows you to create self-destructing messages that expire after they have been read.
Simply enter the data you wish to send into the online interface. You can click "Notify me when the note is viewed" to receive an email confirmation that everything went smoothly.

Then click "Generate link".

The new page allows you to copy the link in question.
Send this link to the relevant person. When they click on it, they will see the following message:

"This message will self-destruct!
Once you have read this message, you will not be able to view it again. If you need to keep the information it contains, please copy and paste it to a safe location."
By clicking "View note", your recipient will have access to your message… only once!

They can then copy the content before closing the window.
If they try to reopen the window, click your link a second time, or refresh the page, they will be unable to retrieve your message.
The following page will appear instead:

"This message is not available.
It was already viewed on 12/02/18 at 9am.
Our messages can only be viewed once, after which they self-destruct."
On your end, you receive a notification email as soon as your recipient has opened the link. You can thus be certain that no one other than your intended recipient has had access to your message.
We hope that this rather handy tool will be useful to you day to day and will give you peace of mind the next time you need to share a password with a colleague by email!
