The 10 words of the week #15

Each week, we revisit 10 words that are rarely used in everyday language. The challenge: work these 10 words into your daily conversations. The aim: to pay tribute to forgotten words by bringing them back into circulation and adding an original touch to everyday discussions!

1. Désuet (Outmoded) : Adjective. No longer in use or current; outdated, antiquated.

2. Succedaneum : Noun, masculine. Sense 1: A substitute; a product that can replace another. Sense 2: Something of lesser value that replaces something of greater value.

3. To brown : Verb. To become brown; to tan, to bronze.

4. Imbroglio : Noun, masculine. A complex, confused situation in which it is difficult to find coherence or any logical thread.

5. Akrasia : Noun, feminine. The act of going against one's better judgement; knowing that one action is the best to take, yet acting differently.

6. Jaculation : Noun, feminine. A burst of enthusiasm or fervour, overflowing or even excessive. Sense 2: The throwing of a projectile weapon, a javelin.

7. Stock-taking (Récolement) : Noun, masculine. The act of verifying the items on an inventory.

8. Nitescence : Noun, feminine. An elevated form; a glimmer, a brilliance.

9. Infrangible : Adjective. That which cannot be broken; resistant, unbreakable.

10. Dispendious : Adjective. Costly, expensive; entailing great expenditure.
