1. Paronym : Noun, masculine. A word that resembles another in spelling but has a different or opposite meaning. For example, in French, latitude, altitude, and attitude are paronyms. Not to be confused with a homonym, which sounds exactly the same (like vert and verre in French).

2. Eburnean : Adjective. Having the colour or consistency of ivory.

3. Simulacrum : Noun, masculine. An illusion, a pretence, a deceptive imitation. An appearance that presents itself as reality.

4. Vexatious : Adjective. Troublesome or inconvenient; causing problems or annoyance.

5. Pupa : Noun, feminine. The intermediate stage in insects, between the larval and adult (imago) state.

6. Imago : Noun, feminine. The name for insects that have reached full maturity. For example, the butterfly is the imago of the caterpillar.

7. Mithridatisation : Noun, feminine. Immunisation against a poison by regularly administering increasing doses of it. Comes from the verb mithridatiser, itself derived from the name of the Greek king Mithridates VI, who famously built up his tolerance to poison through gradually increasing doses. By extension, refers to the process of making someone insensible to a person or thing.

8. (To) make believe (faire accroire) : Verb. To deliberately make someone believe something one knows to be false. To intentionally deceive someone.

9. Coquecigrue (or coxigrue) : Noun, feminine. An imaginary animal. By extension, to say coquecigrues means to talk nonsense, to lie, or to tell a tall tale.

10. Journellement : Adverb. On a daily basis; daily.
