Improving transparency management in InDesign
1) Edit menu
Then go to "Transparency Flattener Presets" — the following window appears: select (High Resolution) then click "New".
A second window appears: name it "Very High Resolution".
- Drag the Raster/Vector Balance slider to 75 (this keeps the "Clip Complex Regions" option active, which disappears if the slider is set to 100)
- Text and Line Art Resolution: 2400 ppi
- Gradient and Mesh Resolution: enter 400 ppi
- Check "Convert All Strokes to Outlines"
- Check "Clip Complex Regions"
Click "OK" then "OK" again to close both windows.

2) Now configure your PDF export.

You can create a document template highlighting the 1.5 mm bleed and the 2 mm safety margin on all edges, then save this template with a name.
3) Your document should look like this:
The background — whether a photo or a graphic element — must extend 1.5 mm beyond the edge ("bleed").
Text, rules, and lines must be kept within the margins to avoid discrepancies during trimming.
Final format once trimmed: 84 x 54

4) Once your document is completely finished, go to the "File" menu

Then "Export" — the following window appears.
Select "Adobe PDF", then click "Save".
5) The following window appears:

You must configure your PDF export exactly as shown in the screenshots below.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS: you can then save these settings as a preset, name it "For XXX", and reuse it every time by selecting it from the PDF Preset drop-down menu.
6) Check the Compression tab:

7) Marks and Bleeds tab

8) Output tab

9) Advanced tab
This is where you will find the style you created earlier for "Very High Resolution" transparencies (Transparency Flattening drop-down > Preset Style > VERY HIGH RESOLUTION).

10) Security tab

Click "Export" once everything has been configured correctly.
PLEASE NOTE: some issues may still arise at the RIP stage. This procedure is designed to minimise the risks as much as possible!
We hope this article will help you better manage transparency-related issues. We would like to thank graphic designer Marie Perrin for this very useful PDF document, which you are free to download below.
