Restaurants, bars and gyms: how to create your mandatory QR code?
From 9 June, the announced date for the reopening of restaurant dining rooms, restaurateurs will be required to put new measures in place. In addition to social distancing, capacity limits, hand sanitiser and mask-wearing, they must now also offer a QR code.
Why this measure?
The introduction of QR codes goes hand in hand with the integration of contact tracing registers into the new health protocol.
With the aim of "strengthening the detection of at-risk contacts in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic", these registers would make it possible to flag potential close contacts for people who dined at your establishment at the same time as an infected individual.
For mandatory QR codes
You can already create your QR code to give access to your online menus using free, easy-to-use tools.
However, the government is offering a turnkey solution that will be directly linked to the TousAntiCovid application to complement the action of the contact tracing registers. By generating your QR code through this means, visitors will not need to sign the register — scanning the code is sufficient and enables contact tracing if a problem arises.
The full procedure is set out directly on the dedicated government page for this solution: https://qrcode.tousanticovid.gouv.fr/
This system does not exclude the presence of a physical register at the entrance to your establishment, allowing those who do not have the necessary equipment (smartphone, TousAntiCovid app, etc.) to sign in.
Which option to choose?
In summary, you can choose whether or not to display the QR code generated directly by the government's solution. If you do, customers will be able to scan it directly and be linked to the TousAntiCovid contact tracing application.
If you do not offer it, your customers will be required to record their details in the contact tracing register. Please note that you are within your rights to refuse entry to anyone who refuses to identify themselves through one of the measures in place.
One final point: the QR code generated by TousAntiCovid can only be read by the government's application.
